Late-night comedy is officially colliding with daytime drama in a historic soap crossover. Comedian John Oliver announced during the latest episode of HBO's Last Week Tonight that he scored a multi-episode guest arc on both Days of Our Lives and General Hospital, fulfilling a public campaign he launched earlier this spring.
This all started in March when he aired a segment expressing immense jealousy over ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith's long-running role as Brick on General Hospital. Oliver also threw down a public challenge to soap opera executive producers, begging to be cast in a juicy storyline involving classics like murder, face-slapping, or a long-lost twin reveal, all while specifically requesting a ridiculous character name.
The call was quickly answered by producers from ABC and Peacock, welcoming the talk show host onto their respective sets.
Oliver's General Hospital Role
On General Hospital, Oliver steps into a significant, undisclosed guest role that merges into the current Port Charles Canvas. This three-episode arc airs on Thursday, July 2, Friday, July 3, and Monday, July 6. In a preview shared by Oliver, he shows himself wearing a sleek suit with his hair dyed black, surrounded by men pulling a firearm. Praised by Frank Valentini, General Hospital's executive producer, he notes that Oliver was incredibly professional, well prepared, and a pleasure to work with. Meanwhile, Oliver released a statement noting that it is a true honor to be a small stain on the history of illustrious shows.
Days of our Lives
The fun doesn't stop in Port Charles as Oliver has already taped a week of episodes for Days of Our Lives as well. He shared a sneak peek photo featuring his mystery character sharing a scene with Dan Feuerriegel, who plays EJ DiMera. This episode will broadcast on August 11, 12, and 14, 2026. The details regarding his character and the specific storyline remain tight-lipped, but fans can expect plenty of drama, especially the types Oliver bargained for.
