Roger Howarth Ends 32-Year Emmy Drought
Howarth previously won a Daytime Emmy in 1994 for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Todd Manning on One Life to Live.
He has received several nominations throughout his career, but his latest victory marks his second Daytime Emmy win.
Howarth has worked on several daytime dramas since his first win. He played Paul Ryan on As the World Turns and portrayed three characters on General Hospital: Todd Manning, Franco Baldwin, and Austin Gatlin-Holt.
His run on General Hospital ended in 2023 when Austin was killed off. He returned to daytime television in 2025, joining The Young and the Restless as Matt Clark.
Roger Howarth Takes Over as Matt Clark
Howarth joined The Young and the Restless in 2025, taking over the role of Matt Clark, previously played by Eddie Cibrian and Rick Hearst.
Matt has a long history with Nick and Sharon Newman. The character first appeared in the 1990s and was involved in several storylines involving Sharon, including the sexual assault that left her traumatized.
His return to Genoa City brought those events back into focus, with Howarth stepping into the role more than two decades after Matt's earlier appearances.
The Young and the Restless Wins Two Supporting Acting Awards
Howarth's victory came on the same night that his The Young and the Restless co-star Beth Maitland won Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress for her portrayal of Traci Abbott.
The CBS soap entered the 2026 Daytime Emmy Awards with 18 nominations, including Outstanding Daytime Drama Series.
Other nominated performers from the show included Eric Braeden, Christian Jules LeBlanc, Michelle Stafford, Sean Dominic, Michael Graziadei, and Camryn Grimes.
Howarth's win brings his Daytime Emmy total to two, with 32 years separating his victories.
